Casey Combest was considered the best high school sprinter in the nation in 1999. Combest has held 3 national high school records for 20 years and counting and was a 10-time all-American. He won a silver metal as part of the USA 4x100m relay team at the World Junior Championships of 1998 in Annecy, France, was the National Scholastic 60-meter as a Junior in high school, and won the Nike Indoor Classic in 6.57. Combest beat the national 60-meter record that has stood for over 20 years and was ranked 10th in the world during his senior year of high school. He had 300 scholarship full-ride offers and one ASIC professional contract. Combest chose to go to a junior college for 1 year where he won the 60-meter national championship.
The American ESPN classic did a 90-minute documentary on his comeback to sprinting after being off more than a decade; the film is titled Lay It on The Line: The Casey Combest Story.
