Hugh Schaefer, a native of Freelandville, Indiana, in northern Knox County, spent 39 years coaching and teaching in the South Knox school corporation. He coached under Hall of Fame coaches Joe Tod rank and Sam Alford, and was boys varsity basketball coach, himself, at South Knox from 1978 thru 1981. Schaefer became a huge high school basketball fan as a small child, and he continues to follow the game in person as well as thru countless hours of research. Schaefer has long been recognized as Knox County’s premier high school basketball historian, and undoubtedly is among the top researchers in Indiana High School basketball history. Hugh Schaefer is known throughout the state as a tireless worker and researcher, spending countless hours on behalf of others.
