John Lidy attended Newton High School where he was a quarterback-middle linebacker on a 9-0 undefeated team in 1962 and received a special mention All-State Football in 1962. He played for the University of Evansville where he was in the All-Conference Indiana Collegiate Conference 1966 and the leading punter in ICC 1965. After college he coached 9th grade at Castle 1968 then his career was interrupted with service in US Army from 1969 to 1972 but returned to Castle and became head coach in 1973. John had a 30-year career record of 209-112 and was Indiana’s Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 1982. He was also 14-0 and won Class 3A Championship 1982 and a 5A State Champions in 1994. John was assistant coach of South All-Stars 1976 and head coach of South All-Stars 1983 and 1995.
